Orofino Place Policies, Procedures and Rules & Regulations

The Craftsmen

Orofino Place is special for many reasons, the vision of an architect willing to pursue a heady dream against heavy odds and sober counsel, a natural setting imbued with striking beauty in every hour and every season, however, the primary reason Orofino stands out in it's own wonderful, whimsical way is the very hard work of a select group of men dedicated to an elemental craft and the art it produces.

Most homes can be roofed in a few days to a week no matter how grand their scale. In comparison, the smallest of the Orofino cottage roofs is a six week labor of love, sweat and, if not tears, a lot of swearing and steely eyed bending of cedar.

Each and every one of the 16" shingles is hand sorted, steam shaped, and intricately cut to be laid down, layer upon layer, to create swooping lines, arcing curves and an incredible depth that results in a roof that words can do little justice.  These roofs must be seen to be believed and, once seen, appreciated for the unique art form they are.
